RoadTrippin’ from Chicago to NYC!

So here I am in NYC with a million-dollar view to gaze upon, penning down my road tripping adventures! Oh yes, the apartment which we stay has this one of a kind, stunning view of the NYC skyline which never ceases to amaze us! Thanks to Airbnb for helping people discover such amazing rentals. ❤

Sigh, I don think I could ever get tired of these stunning NYC skyline views!

Before moving to the roadtripping story, first of all a huge thank you to all the wonderful bloggers who poured down with such wonderful suggestions. 🙂 <3.In fact quite a few of them have inspired us to take another roadtrip exclusively to those cities rather than a halt on the way. (Like Philadelphia). And thank you SO much Meg at https://midnightwithmegs.wordpress.com/ for letting me know about the website roadtrippers.com. Seriously, if you are planning a road trip in US and want to know more about anything under the sun on the way, head to the site and have your wish! The site helped us enormously to choose the spots to halt on the way 🙂

So as planned we left our home in the wee hours of the morning around 4.30 am and feeling very happy and pleased with ourselves. 😎  iPad with all our favorite songs- Check, Snacks to munch on the way – Check, Phone Charger- Check, Sunnies- Check, DSLR- Check, Selfie Stick- Check! (Yeah, you did not think we would travel without our beloved selfie stick did you 😛 )

Me trying to capture the sunrise (or something similar to that! 😛 )

So we reach our first pit stop in Chicago for breakfast, which was a two and a half drive from our place and then the hubster goes like, “I think I did not take my wallet!”.

Errr. Say what?!

I stood there opening and closing my mouth like a fish, kind of waiting for him to say “Just kidding. Let’s go”. Normally he tries to trick me with these kind of stupid lies just to see me go bonkers. And every time I fall for it! Talk about predictability :/ But that day when it did not happen, all I could manage was “Did you check your pockets well?” With a dead serious look, he confirmed the worst! This is NOT happening. I mean we had planned all our stops on the way so that we would be in time to meet our rental owner before they had to leave the city. It’s summer and everyone had plans! Now, losing 5 hours was not good, not good at all o_O

Volume turned down, gloominess cast across the ride we started on our journey back. We were going through the if-onlys and what-ifs and took turns in telling each other “It’s fine, happens”. But deep down, we knew this was going to be a long monotonous drive if we had to make it before the owner leaves 😕  And not to mention the disappointment of missing all the awesome places we had planned….

BUT, oh yes a “but” came along the way. A much needed-miracle-like “but”! The owner messaged us asking if we could come a few hours LATE! Did you hear that? Late!!! 😮 Could we ask for anything more! We told them about our situation and it worked out perfectly for them and for us and everything was back on track again! Now, where was the volume button, crank it up please! Woohoo! Let’s go baby!

My click, my click! Pretty pleased with myself for this one 😎

We drove non-stop to Port Clinton, Ohio where we made a stop in a cute retro style diner nearby an aviation museum, with great views of the air strip and a lovely ambiance. We could watch the flights landing and taking off and their chili cheese fries were so yummy!

This actually reminded me of Harry Potter! Muggles please excuse 😉

Oh, umm before you scroll down further to avoid any shocking surprises just letting everyone know that I decided to color my hair pink 😉 One more item off the bucket list 😀 Yippeee! What? Don look at me like that! Pink is my favorite color! You should have seen it coming 😉

thumb_pic6_1024
Couldn’t help posing with those blooms ❤

We (read hubby 😛 ) wanted to check the aviation museum as well but I was impatient to go to the Marblehead lighthouse nearby. I had seen so many pics of it and could not wait to see it for myself. And the sky was perfect and I was scared it should not turn overcast!

So we headed to the lighthouse which was only around 20 minutes from the diner and it was exactly like the pics we had seen or even better! It was absolutely gorgeous and the atmosphere was so relaxing and blissful. No wonder they say it is one of Lake Erie’s best known and most-photographed landmarks.

Yaay! We reached!

A looong shot! 😀
thumb_pic8_1024
Oooh! I am in love with the sky in this pic ❤

We decided to call it a day and headed to the hotel in Ohio. The drive through Port Clinton was very scenic with the roads hugging Lake Erie and all the lush greenery which was all the more enhanced as we were passing by the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. We hit the beds like a dead log but with brimming happiness that everything worked out well 🙂

Next day morning we were out and about to explore the Cuyahoga National Park. It stretches over a massive 32000 acres and we knew it was impossible to cover it in a few hours but we did what we could 🙂 We visited the Brandywine falls and the(haunted!) Everett Covered bridge and some other nice spots.

pic10
An intriguing welcome to the falls I must say! 😛

The road to nowhere ?!  😮

The (haunted) Everett Covered Bridge! Can you spot any ghosts?!

My man and our ride ❤ I could gaze at this pic all day long! ❤

Then started our drive through PA, and it was one of the best drives we have gone till now. We are not strangers to winding curves and looming lush green mountains touching clouds (we hail from Kerala in India, which has such scenic and stunning hill-stations 😉 ) but this had an additional charm with light drizzles and I can only imagine how amazing it will be in fall season. There is nothing like a scenic drive with your favorite romantic songs playing and you and your guy crooning along with it ❤ And to add to it, the destination ahead is nothing short of a dream come true! *touchwood*

pic16
The only decent shot I could get on this route and this is not even the mountains 😛

The silhouette of the majestic New York skyline raising far amongst the clouds was indeed a sight to behold! I don think I will ever forget that feeling in my life, seeing it for the first time. The Chicago skyline is quite impressive I agree, but this is well, this is NYC! Maybe it’s the hype, maybe I am being biased, but I cannot stop gushing over it!

Years back a teenage girl had a dream. A dream of visiting the city of lights or city of love as they call it. She did not stop there. Parisian charms sure enamored her but she wanted to ride the London Eye as well. Do the gondola ride gliding through the Grand Canal, in the backdrop of the majestic Venetian palaces. And see the Keukenhof Tulip Garden in Netherlands. Giving her bucketlist in Europe a rest, she began to fancy the ones in US and yes, it is the Big Apple which she wanted to visit first. And of course the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which was the ultimate dream come true for a Potterhead. All this seemed like a far far away wish then. Daydreams and fantasies. And today she is happy and thankful to the Lord and her happily-ever-after for making her dreams come true. For taking her to all the cities she had dreamt of the most. London- Paris-Netherlands-Venice-The Wizarding World-New York. Of course, the wanderluster in me still wants to fly and keeps on dreaming of cities when the current one is finished, but I am eternally thankful to the Lord and my hubby and the Universe for making these ones happen ❤

I am sorry if I got sappy! I promise I won’t do this again! 😀 The Big Apple does strange things to people I must say 😉 We are yet to explore in detail the city which never sleeps! Hubs has started work and we must now make use of the weekends to the max or maybe I can do some solo tripping too provided I learn some photography lessons and do something about my direction-retardation! We did make a short trip to the WTC and also got a bite from the famous Shake Shack(yummm) but I guess I would be sharing our adventures here in a later post covering more places 🙂

Great post, sweetie, and I’m so glad you guys have made it safe and sound! Sure sounds like the Lord was looking out for you in the beginning with the being late thing, wow, how perfectly did that happen?!

Your pictures are awesome! So many great sights to see!

You said it took you 2 hours to get to Chicago? Are you south of the city then?

I can’t wait to hear more about your journeys!

    *hugs* ❤

    1. Thanks a TON Nessie dear 🙂 ❤ ❤ ❤ Not all comments have been great like yours about my hair 😉 But that was expected and it was a once in a lifetime thingy of mine 😀 I know ! The wallet missing and then the owner calling us was too much to take in! Even now we discuss about it and talk about the "what-ifs" !! And about where I stay,I would love to tell you dearie. In fact I came over to your blog to see if you have a contact me page. I am not so sure to put it out here :\ Anyone can see this page right… Its not a big city and am a wee bit wary of stalkers and stuff like that :\

    1. Oh yes! We were so so bummed out for quite some time. The worst part was though we were trying to talk each other out of it , it was such a mood spoiler. Thankfully by God’s grace it ended well 🙂 Oh, wow great that you are coming to the city that does not sleep as well 🙂 It keeps raining here though :\ Hope it stops soon.

  2. I love your hair Minaxi. 🙂 And what a happy post, I could feel the joy and excitement jumping out your words. Isn’t it amazing how everything always works out for the best, like your hubby leaving his wallet behind (that’s something my man would do too!) 🙂 And what a fantastic road trip, you covered so much on the way to NYC. It all sounds so amazing, thanks for sharing your happiness with us, may all the adventures and joy continue … for a long time. Enjoy it all. xo 🙂

  6. Hi Minaxi! What a fun post! Your road trip was a trip down memory lane for us – we used to live in Cleveland and drive to New York City all the time. 🙂 We actually live in this part of the country now, and we blog about things to do and eat in the city. We love it here and we’re sure you will too! Enjoy your stay! 🙂

  7. Oh Minaxi what a wonderful journal of your trip so far!! Ok now ghosts are right up my alley and I must tell you two things about that haunted bridge. One look at the pole that is in the road, look at the bottom of it…I see a dog’s face! Now look at the peak of the covering of the bridge the red part, see the shadows…looks like a couple to me!! So yes I see ghosts. Wow that Cuyahoga National Park is gorgeous…so lush and green…and so many miles of beauty! I love how the Universe works…and that your being late was not going to be late after all!! You have a fantastic view of NYC…you should watch tonight on Bravo TV Million Dollar Listing NY, you can learn more about the city and maybe find your way around while Hubby is working. Love your pink hair and the flowers were quite complimentary! Looking forward to more of your escapades as you post…wishing you the most adventurous time!! Tell Hubby great pic of him and your car…I can see why you would stare at that pic all day…I love how in love you two are…it’s beautiful. Ok go have some fun now…xoxo 🙂

    1. Oh myyy !!! Debbie you really scared me! Now I will have second thoughts if I ever get a chance to do a girls sleepover with you, you know 😛 I hope you saw Conjuring 2 😛 Even the bravest seem to have sleepless nights 😛
And thank you thank you thank you, a zillion thanks on your heartfelt wishes dear. Such lovely words 🙂 I will surely pass onto him your compliments 🙂 ❤ ❤ Hope you are having a swell summer too 🙂 I will be over at your bloggie home soon ❤ 🙂

      1. Oh what scary fun we would have!!! I do not have the nerve to see Conjuring 2, I saw the previews and that was enough for me…I don’t think I could watch it!! However they have been playing Conjuring on tv recently, I’m sure because of the new one, and I watch a bit of it…missed it from the start, so who knows maybe when it comes to tv I will be brave enough!! My summer has been wonderful so far, it’s my favorite time of year! I go on vaca in July and then again in August so I really look forward to that!! But I love warm and sunny days…hope you continue to have a fabulous time and we’ll talk soon!! xo 🙂

      2. Wow. What a wonderful summer 🙂 And it is so awesome when you have planned out and just waiting for the dates to come 🙂 Wishing you an amazing summer dear 🙂
And about Conjuring, no comments 😛 I am not very brave and would be freaked even by the shadows the night lamp casts so I avoid all supernatural films/books. My sister, on the other hand is very much into this! Talk about opposites. And she keeps me posted. Recently she had the “goodwill” to let me know that the house that inspired a horror movie called “Amityville Horror Story” or something like that is in NYC 😛 And whats more its on sale 😮 I wonder who would buy it :\

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Oh your sister and I would be great friends…we’d scare each other completely and scream with delight!! Yes my parents are coming for a visit in July so I am really looking forward to that and the August one is “me” time before I head into my super busy season at work!! Oh I love the Amityville Horror Movie that was creepy and scary…ask your sister if she’s read Pet Sematary by Stephen King…great read!!! Somebody might buy it to use as a haunted inn or museum…yikes!! 🙂

      4. Thank you Minaxi!! She will definitely have some sleepless nights…but it’s oh so good!! hee hee…Looking forward for reading more about your summer adventures too! xo

      1. 🙂 Thank you for that compliment, but there is much more to it than meets the eye. In fact this hair coloring has bought many incidents in my life, some nice and some not so nice 🙂 Some day I might blog about it. I thought I had the courage to pull it off, but there were times I thought otherwise as well! But now, I don regret it one bit 🙂
Ah, so next week it is! When you can take a break from all those homework helping and plan some cool vacationing ideas 🙂

    1. Ohh is it 🙂 Yes, the burgers were indeed yummm. But their “concretes”, the custard icecreams takes things to a totally different level! If I learnt something after coming here, it is that you seriously need to check on your calory intake! Esp for someone who has a sweet-tooth and loves anything and everything with cheese 😉

  10. I was not following you again and had to redo it. I don’t know what’s going on with WP sometimes. I love your post and I like your hair. It will take me a little time to get used to, but hey, if you can’t do fun stuff like that when you’re young, when can you? 🙂
I did not realize you lived in the Chicago area. I live in the western suburbs! If you went through Indiana and Ohio and Pennsylvania on the turnpike, I know that road well!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yes, I saw the follow and I was like “Gasp! Did I lose Diane’s follow?” 😮 And then consoled myself saying maybe WP antics had something to do with it! Thank goodness you confirmed! ❤
Yes, I agree you need time to get used to the hair color 🙂 For a few days , I myself was in shock when I used to glance upon myself in mirror by chance 😛 But like you said, this was in my bucketlist and this is surely one thing I cannot do in my 40s or maybe even in 30s 😉 Maybe I could, but then I am not living in a No-Man's Land and have to care about the society too as much as we would all love to talk against that! Oh yes we went through that road 🙂 But we are not exactly in Chicago area. A few hours down south 🙂

      1. Awww. I needed to hear that so badly 😀 The unfollow comment I meant. The adorable compliment did not hurt either 😉 On a more serious note you are one of the bloggers in WP whom I look upon and cherish the relationship a lot and so eager to read your comments on my posts 🙂 So I got a lil wary when I saw the re-follow 🙂

      2. Oh, I love your blog and your comments, too! I’m blaming WP, I’m sure it’s possible that I accidentally hit unfollow when I was posting a comment on your site, but I’m gonna say it’s WP’s fault anyway! I need to be more careful, just like the autocorrect, lol

  11. Okay I must ask, what did you think of Shake Shack?! I was sooooo excited for it, being the cheeseburger fanatic that I am, and I was a little disappointed. It was “good,” but nothing amazing. And I didn’t really think the fries were anything special!!

Other than that, love your photos! Looks like such a great adventure!

      1. Haha you should 😀 And while you are at it, do not miss the giant milkshakes at Black Tap Burgers. There could be a queue of minimum 45min to 2 hours, but its worth it 😀 We visited an hour before their opening time and still had to stand in line for 45 min!!!

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Gurlll, just google Black Tap Burger milkshake and see for yourself 😛 You will be torn among feelings of admiring it and drinking it and instagramming it 😛 Just when I was about to take that perfect click of the cotton candy milkshake for insta, hubster had to try the Whirlpop from it :\ So we might go again you never know 😉 People usually come armed with games and stuff in their mobile to kill their time in line! Its one of NYCs current novelty eat-ins rage. And sadly yes currently they are in NYC only :\

      3. OHMYGODDDDDDDDDDDDD it looks amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t think I could even eat it because it’s too pretty! They’re all so amazing! I guess next time I’ll have to add it to my list for sure! Are they super expensive?!

      4. Wow!!!! That’s a lot, but I guess you can totally share with someone or more than one person, so really it’s not too bad. Desserts in NYC are so decadent already, now I just have another one to add to my list!! I always get Junior’s cheesecake too. MMMMMM!!!!!!!!

    1. Oooh how exciting! 😀 Although I guess I am a little behind the tag and awards posts 😦 The Big Apple is snatching away most of my time nowadays. But I will surely do this 🙂 Sounds so much fun and thank you so much for the wonderful compliment 🙂 Wishing you a wonderful week ahead too 🙂

      1. Oooh yes. I would be posting soon about our trip to Niagara falls and about NYC , I plan to do a detailed post later. The iconic sights, eat-ins , tips to save money and so on. The cost of living is pretty high here and most of the attractions are ticketed too but there are ways to work around and the free attractions are pretty awesome too 🙂

      2. We went to Niagara as part of my birthday 😀 We are not living in NYC ! It would be crazy costly over there.:o We are in the Jersey side 🙂 One good thing about NYC is the subway is well-connected to all the places we want to visit to 🙂
